Eid rush intensifies traffic on Dhaka–Tangail–Jamuna Bridge highway

The flow of homebound passengers ahead of Eid has intensified, causing a significant increase in traffic on the Dhaka–Tangail–Jamuna Bridge highway.

Officials said a total of 46,963 vehicles crossed the Jamuna Bridge in the 24-hour period from midnight Monday to midnight Tuesday, generating toll revenue of Tk 3.39 crore.

Of the total vehicles, 19,445 were Dhaka-bound, contributing Tk 1.66 crore in tolls. Meanwhile, 27,498 vehicles heading toward North Bengal generated Tk 1.72 crore.

Executive Engineer Syed Riaz Uddin confirmed the figures on Wednesday morning, adding that despite the heavy traffic volume, no major congestion has been reported so far.

To handle the increased pressure, authorities have deployed 18 toll booths—nine on each side of the bridge—with dedicated lanes for motorcycles at two booths on either end.

Officials said traffic is being closely monitored, while law enforcement agencies are actively working to ensure smooth movement of vehicles on the highway during the Eid rush.
