Home Minister Salahuddin Ahmed has announced that the government will form a new enquiry commission to reinvestigate the 2009 BDR carnage at Pilkhana in Dhaka.
Speaking in response to a question, the minister said the decision was taken as part of efforts to ensure justice and review unresolved issues surrounding the incident.
The announcement came after a meeting with the chiefs of forces under the Home Ministry, where matters related to previous investigation findings and recommendations were discussed.
The Pilkhana tragedy occurred on February 25–26, 2009, when a mutiny broke out at the headquarters of the then Bangladesh Rifles (BDR).
During the 33-hour unrest, 74 people lost their lives, including the BDR Director General, his wife, 57 army officers, two officers’ spouses, and several civilians.
The minister emphasized that the formation of a new commission reflects the government’s commitment to accountability and transparency.
