PM vows action after Cumilla train-bus crash, expresses grief over multiple accidents

Prime Minister Tarique Rahman has expressed deep shock and sorrow over the casualties caused by a train-bus collision in Cumilla, as well as other accidents reported in different parts of the country, including Habiganj.

“The Prime Minister conveyed profound condolences over the loss of lives in the collision between a train and a bus at a railway crossing in Cumilla,” Prime Minister’s Press Secretary Saleh Shibly said.

Following a recent train accident in Bogura, the premier directed the authorities concerned to immediately determine the causes behind the latest incident, which occurred late Saturday night.

He has already held discussions with relevant ministry officials and local administration regarding the accident.

The prime minister instructed authorities to ensure proper medical treatment for the injured and to provide financial assistance to the families of the deceased.

He also said thorough investigations would be carried out into the incident, and strict legal action would be taken against those found responsible for negligence.

Three probe committees have already been formed to investigate the Cumilla rail accident—two by railway authorities and one by the district administration. All committees have been asked to submit their reports within 72 hours.

Action has already been taken against several individuals for negligence, and further steps will follow based on the investigation findings.

The prime minister also directed authorities to ensure proper treatment and support for those injured in road accidents in Feni, Habiganj, Jamalpur and other areas.

Describing the incidents as deeply painful during the festive Eid period, he said, “Every life is valuable, and every death is an irreparable loss.”

He prayed for the forgiveness of the deceased, expressed sympathy to the bereaved families, and wished a speedy recovery for the injured.

Reaffirming the government’s commitment to public safety, Tarique Rahman said no negligence would be tolerated and instructed relevant ministries to identify weaknesses in railway crossings, bridge safety and the overall transport system, and take urgent corrective measures.
