Sea of devotees at Sholakia as 199th Eid jamaat held under tight security

Hundreds of thousands of worshippers gathered at the historic Sholakia Eidgah in Kishoreganj today to offer Eid-ul-Fitr prayers, marking the 199th congregation at the venue.

The main jamaat began at 10:00am and was led by Mufti Abul Khair Muhammad Saifullah.

After the prayers, special munajat was offered seeking global peace, welfare of the Muslim Ummah, and prosperity of Bangladesh. Prayers were also held in memory of the martyrs and injured of the 1971 Liberation War and the 2024 uprising.

Tight security measures were put in place across the Sholakia area for the congregation. Law enforcement agencies deployed a four-tier security system, while items such as umbrellas, sticks, lighters and fireworks were prohibited inside the Eidgah.

Every worshipper was checked using metal detectors before entering the prayer ground.

Maintaining the long-standing tradition, gunfire signals were used to announce the start of the jamaat—three shots 15 minutes before, two shots 10 minutes before, and one shot five minutes prior to the prayer, coordinated by the district police.
