Army to Return to Barracks After New Government Takes Office

Chief of Army Staff General Waker-Uz-Zaman on Sunday said the Bangladesh Army will return to its barracks once the newly elected government assumes office.

He added that a limited number of troops will remain deployed for a short period to help maintain law and order until the police fully resume their duties.

The Army Chief made the remarks while addressing personnel of all ranks at the CAS Darbar on Sunday morning. Members serving in United Nations peacekeeping missions joined the address virtually.

During the event, General Waker-Uz-Zaman thanked Army personnel for their professionalism and “excellent sense of responsibility” in performing election-related duties.

Referring to the Army’s role during the election period, he said the country and its people would remember the service.

He also quoted a verse from the Holy Quran, saying, “Indeed, Allah rewards those who are patient.”
