The government has launched a nationwide emergency measles-rubella vaccination campaign to control a sharp rise in infections and deaths across the country.
Sardar Md Sakhawat Hossain inaugurated the Measles-Rubella Vaccination Campaign 2026 at a centre set up at Little Angels Seminary School in Rupganj, Narayanganj.
Around 1.8 crore children aged between six months and under five years are expected to be vaccinated under this drive, according to health officials.
Tarique Rahman is also scheduled to formally inaugurate the campaign in Bogura.
Earlier, the government began an emergency vaccination campaign on April 5 in 30 high-risk upazilas across 18 districts. This was later expanded on April 12 to four city corporations—Dhaka South, Dhaka North, Mymensingh, and Barishal.
In total, about 21.8 lakh children in the initial phase and around 1.58 crore children across the rest of the country are being targeted.
The nationwide campaign will continue until May 20 in city corporation areas and until May 12 in other regions. Vaccination services are being provided daily from 8:00 am at fixed and outreach centres.
