The Election Commission (EC) on Tuesday said the ‘Postal Vote BD’ mobile app has no role in the actual voting process for the 13th national parliamentary election and referendum.

In a statement, the EC clarified that voting through declaration forms and ballot papers is done fully by manual process. The mobile app is used only to track voter activities and has no connection with casting or counting votes.

The commission said the app is not linked to declaration forms or ballot papers in any way. Once ballot papers reach the returning officer, any link with the app is completely removed from the yellow envelope.

The EC also explained the vote counting process. During counting, the yellow envelopes are opened first in the presence of all concerned parties. Then the declaration forms and ballot papers are separated, and votes are counted following official rules. Under this system, there is no way to identify a voter with their vote, the EC said.

Meanwhile, the Election Commission shared an update on voting inside the country through the ‘Postal Vote BD’ app (ICPV).

According to the EC, as of 12:00 pm on Tuesday, the Bangladesh Post Office had sent 6,46,507 ballot papers to voters. Among them, 1,25,668 voters have received their ballots. So far, 96,632 voters have completed voting, and 70,810 ballots have been submitted at post offices or postal drop boxes. The EC said 3,655 ballots have already reached returning officers.
