Prime Minister Tarique Rahman paid rich tributes to the martyrs of the 1952 Language Movement, observing the Great Martyrs’ Day and International Mother Language Day.

The Prime Minister arrived at the Central Shaheed Minar shortly after midnight and placed a wreath at 12:08 am. He walked slowly towards the altar as the historic song “Amar Bhaiyer Rokte Rangano Ekushey February” played, creating a solemn atmosphere.

After laying the wreath, Tarique Rahman stood in silence for some time to honor the memories of the language martyrs.

Special prayers were offered seeking forgiveness for the martyrs of the 1952 Language Movement, the 1971 Liberation War, the 1990 Anti-autocracy Movement, and the 2024 July Uprising. Prayers were also offered for Shaheed President Ziaur Rahman and former Prime Minister Begum Khaleda Zia, along with wishes for the peace and progress of the country.

Later, accompanied by cabinet members and BNP leaders, the Prime Minister placed wreaths on behalf of the government and the party. He also laid another wreath along with his family members.

Earlier, President Mohammed Shahabuddin paid homage at the Shaheed Minar just after midnight. Chiefs of the three armed services, senior government officials, political leaders, diplomats, and representatives from various institutions also placed wreaths.

Following the official ceremonies, the Shaheed Minar was opened to the public. Hundreds of people from different walks of life, many walking barefoot with ফুল in hand, gathered to pay their respects and remember the sacrifice of the language heroes.
