PM Takes Responsibility for Victims of Keraniganj Factory Fire

Prime Minister Tarique Rahman has taken responsibility for the families of those killed and injured in a fire at a gas-lighter manufacturing factory in Kadamtali, Keraniganj.

Health and Family Welfare Minister Sardar Md. Sakhawat Hossain shared the update while visiting the scene.

He said each family of the deceased will receive Tk 200,000 from the Labour and Employment Ministry. He also confirmed that the factory owner and others responsible will face legal action.

The minister added that the prime minister will be informed to ensure that unsafe and hazardous factories are not allowed to operate in densely populated areas.

He said arrangements have been made for the treatment of the injured.

According to the Bangladesh Fire Service and Civil Defence control room, the fire was reported at 1:13pm at the Kadamtali factory.

So far, five bodies have been recovered, though their identities are yet to be confirmed. One injured person has been admitted to Dhaka Medical College Hospital.

Earlier, seven units of the Fire Service brought the fire under control after about one hour and fifteen minutes of effort.
