PM Tarique Rahman Greets Ethnic Communities on Festivals in Chittagong Hill Tracts

Prime Minister Tarique Rahman has extended greetings to people of different ethnic communities living in the Chittagong Hill Tracts on the occasion of traditional festivals including Biju, Sangrai, Baisu and Changkran.

In a message issued, the Prime Minister conveyed heartfelt greetings and congratulations to the ethnic communities celebrating their traditional social festivals alongside the Bengali New Year and Chaitra Sankranti. He also wished everyone a happy and prosperous New Year.

“The religious and social festivals of all communities, regardless of religion, caste or ethnicity, whether living in the hills or the plains, are an integral part of the nation’s collective festivals,” he said.

He expressed hope that these celebrations would bring peace and happiness to the country.

Highlighting the importance of ethnic heritage, the Prime Minister said the traditions, culture, history and heritage of the hill communities are an inseparable part of Bangladesh’s national identity, adding diversity and richness to the country.

He also noted that harmony and coexistence are deeply rooted in the country’s folk traditions, which have strengthened Bangladesh’s global image.

Reaffirming the government’s commitment, he said equal development, security and protection of fundamental rights will be ensured for all citizens, including members of small ethnic communities, as guaranteed by the Constitution.

The Prime Minister emphasized that every citizen, whether living in the hills or plains, has equal rights as a Bangladeshi.

He expressed hope that the traditional festivals of ethnic communities along with the Bengali New Year would bring peace, happiness and prosperity to all.
