Asif Mahmud Shojib Bhuyain, former Adviser to the Interim Government and Chairman of the National Citizens’ Party (NCP) Election Management Committee, today said Bangladesh would gain long-term benefits if the ‘Yes’ vote prevails in the upcoming referendum.

He made the remarks while addressing an NCP election rally at the Cumilla Town Hall field, as part of a nationwide campaign encouraging voter participation in the referendum and support for NCP candidates contesting under the ‘Shapla Kali’ symbol.

Asif Mahmud described February 12 as a historic day, noting that voters will cast two ballots.

“After 17 years of being deprived of voting rights, people now have the opportunity to vote both for a parliamentary candidate and in the referendum,” he said.

He expressed confidence that the 11-party alliance would secure victories across all 300 constituencies. “A ‘Yes’ victory in the referendum will bring benefits not only to the current generation but also to future generations,” he added.

Kazi Din Mohammad, candidate for Cumilla-6; Principal Shafiqul Alam Helal, candidate for Cumilla-8; Mahabubur Rahman, Secretary of Cumilla Metropolitan Jamaat-e-Islami; and Navid Nawroj Shah, NCP Central Joint Coordinator and other leaders of the 11-party alliance spoke at the rally.
