Bangladesh has expressed concern over maritime safety risks arising from the ongoing Middle East crisis and called for diplomatic efforts to ensure secure and uninterrupted global shipping.

The concerns were raised during the 36th Extraordinary Session of the International Maritime Organization (IMO) Council, which was convened to discuss the evolving situation in the Middle East and its impact on global maritime safety and security.

The Bangladesh delegation was led by Deputy High Commissioner Dr Nazrul Islam, according to a press release issued by the Bangladesh High Commission in London.

In his brief, he highlighted Bangladesh’s concern for the safety, security and welfare of all seafarers, including Bangladeshi nationals working on vessels operating in the affected regions.

Bangladesh also reiterated its support for uninterrupted and lawful navigation in line with international law, including the United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea (UNCLOS).

The delegation further urged all parties involved to engage in meaningful dialogue and diplomatic efforts to resolve the ongoing crisis and maintain stability in global maritime operations.
