Prime Minister Tarique Rahman called on political parties to take an oath to work together to change the destiny of the people of Bangladesh.
Speaking at an Iftar mahfil hosted by Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami at the Bangladesh-China Friendship Conference Centre (BCFCC) this afternoon, he said the people are looking to political parties with great hope and expectations.
“Today, at this Iftar gathering, let us take an oath in the name of Allah that our future work will be dedicated to changing the destiny of the country’s people,” he said.
He also prayed for divine guidance and strength to serve the nation and improve its future.
Referring to the recent national election in which the BNP formed the government with a landslide victory, the Prime Minister said the country has begun a new journey of democracy. He noted that people sacrificed for more than a decade, facing repression, persecution, enforced disappearances and killings.
“Through the immense sacrifice and suffering of thousands, we have regained the opportunity to exercise our democratic and individual rights,” he said.
He urged all political parties to express gratitude to Almighty Allah and work together in unity for the welfare of the nation.
Jamaat-e-Islami Ameer and Leader of the Opposition in Parliament, Dr Shafiqur Rahman, presided over the event.
