Two main suspects in the murder case of political activist Shaheed Sharif Osman bin Hadi were detained in India’s West Bengal state, according to multiple sources.

The detainees were identified as Faisal Karim Masud and Alamgir Hossain. They were held from the Bangaon area in West Bengal following information provided by defense intelligence sources.

According to reports, Faisal, the alleged shooter, and his associate Alamgir had fled to India after the killing of Osman Hadi in Dhaka on December 12 last year. The two reportedly entered Indian territory illegally through the Meghalaya border.

Sources said the suspects moved through different locations across India before eventually reaching Bangaon, a border area near Bangladesh. They were allegedly attempting to take shelter there with plans to return to Bangladesh.

Acting on intelligence information, authorities conducted an early-morning operation on March 8 and detained the duo.

A case has been filed in West Bengal regarding the matter. The suspects were produced before the concerned court and are currently under police custody.

Further investigation into the case is underway, the sources added.
