Two gatemen suspended over Cumilla train-bus collision that killed 12

Railway authorities have temporarily suspended two gatemen for negligence in connection with the deadly train-bus collision in Cumilla last night.

The suspended gatemen are Helal Uddin and Mehedi Hasan, confirmed Railway’s Chattogram Divisional Manager Mostafizur Rahman Bhuiyan today.

At least 12 people were killed and 10 others injured in the accident that occurred around midnight under a flyover at Bishwaroad in Padua Bazar of Jangalia area under Cumilla Sadar Dakkhin upazila.

Officials said the accident took place when the Dhaka-bound Chattogram Mail Train hit a passenger bus as its driver attempted to cross the railway line.

Of the deaths, seven were men, two were women and three were children.

The railway official said further action will be taken against those found responsible for negligence following investigation.
