Prime Minister Tarique Rahman has stressed the need for innovative and sustainable production methods to remain competitive in the global market, saying consumers are now more aware than ever before.

“Consumers are now far more aware than before. They consider not only the quality of products but also the ethics of production, social responsibility and environmental impact. Therefore, adopting innovative and sustainable production methods is essential for survival in the competitive international marketplace,” he said in a message marking World Accreditation Day 2026.

The Prime Minister said World Accreditation Day serves as a reminder of the importance of safety, quality and trust in the products and services people use in their daily lives.

He noted that the International Accreditation Forum (IAF) and the International Laboratory Accreditation Cooperation (ILAC) observe the day every year on June 9.

Referring to this year’s theme, “Innovation, Trust and Sustainability: The Power of Accreditation,” Tarique Rahman said it is highly relevant and timely.

“In today’s world, innovation, trust and sustainable development are closely interconnected and serve as key foundations of economic progress,” he said.

The Prime Minister praised the initiative of the Bangladesh Accreditation Board (BAB), under the Ministry of Industries, for observing the day and promoting quality standards in the country.

He said accreditation is an internationally recognised quality assurance mechanism that verifies the quality of products and services based on established standards.

“Accreditation is not merely a certificate or recognition; it is a powerful tool to sustain the country’s industrial sector in global competition,” he said.

According to the Prime Minister, the Bangladesh Accreditation Board has so far granted accreditation certificates to 168 government, private and multinational institutions.

He added that accreditation activities are currently being carried out under five sector-based schemes in line with international standards.

Tarique Rahman expressed hope that World Accreditation Day 2026 would further strengthen the country’s quality infrastructure and accelerate innovation and sustainable development.

He wished every success for the observance of the day.
