Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) has reportedly foiled attempts by India’s Border Security Force (BSF) to push a total of 20 people into Bangladesh through border areas in Chuadanga and Kurigram districts.
According to local sources, BSF personnel attempted to push 11 individuals into Bangladesh through the Darshana border in Chuadanga early Sunday.
A BGB patrol team intercepted the group near border pillars 76/77 and prevented their entry into Bangladesh. The BSF later took the group, comprising eight men and three women, back to the Indian side of the border.
Confirming the incident, Lieutenant Colonel Md Nazmul Hasan, Commanding Officer of Chuadanga Battalion (6 BGB), said BGB remains vigilant to prevent push-ins and other illegal activities along the border.
“The BSF attempted to push 11 Bengali-speaking men and women into Bangladesh, but BGB personnel intervened and foiled the attempt,” he said.
He added that BGB had received information through its own sources that another 125 people had been gathered near the border on the Indian side and could be subjected to similar push-in attempts.
“BGB remains on high alert in the area,” he said.
Local residents have also been advised to remain vigilant amid concerns over further attempts.
In a separate incident, BSF allegedly attempted to push nine people, including two children, into Bangladesh through the Roumari border in Kurigram district.
The incident reportedly took place in the early hours of the day through the Goytapara and Izlamari border points.
BGB said it continues regular patrols, intelligence surveillance and operational activities to prevent illegal border crossings and maintain security along the frontier.
