President Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir pledged to discharge his constitutional responsibilities in a completely non-partisan manner for the welfare of the state and the nation.
“I resigned from the party, parliament and the Cabinet before assuming the responsibility of the President. I am now completely a non-partisan person, and after assuming the responsibility of the President, I will work in a completely non-partisan manner for the welfare of the state and the nation,” he said.
The President made the remarks at his first Durbar with the officers and employees of Bangabhaban at the Durbar Hall at 11:30 am.
He said that after assuming office, he would have no anger or favour towards anyone and that the interests of the country, the state and the people would remain his prime objective.
The President urged the officers and employees of Bangabhaban to discharge their respective duties with dedication, sincerity and honesty, stressing the importance of maintaining public trust, responsibility and loyalty to the country and its people.
He also emphasised maintaining confidentiality regarding important activities related to national security carried out at Bangabhaban.
Calling for economy and responsibility in state expenditure, the President urged all concerned to prevent waste and ensure the proper, transparent and accountable use of government resources and facilities.
“Government resources and other facilities are managed with the money of the country’s people. Therefore, their proper, responsible, transparent and accountable use must be ensured,” he said.
The President also urged the officers and employees to maintain discipline in their personal and professional lives and work continuously to strengthen their moral values and character.
“We are a family here and we all work from the same place. We will have opportunities to talk to each other and try to resolve problems,” he said.
Recalling his long political career, the President said he had participated in struggles alongside the people over a long period of time.
He paid deep respect to those who sacrificed their lives during the Great War of Liberation in 1971 and recalled the contribution of Shaheed President Ziaur Rahman during the Liberation War and in nation-building afterwards.
The President also recalled BNP Chairperson Begum Khaleda Zia for her courageous leadership, sacrifices and contribution throughout her long political career.
Highlighting the history and tradition of Bangabhaban, President Mirza Fakhrul expressed hope that its officers and employees would continue to work together with dedication and responsibility in the days ahead.
