State Minister for Foreign Affairs Shama Obaed Islam has said Prime Minister Tarique Rahman will highlight Bangladesh’s national interests, economic potential and development opportunities at the upcoming United Nations General Assembly under the government’s “Bangladesh First” foreign policy.

Speaking at a discussion on the upcoming UNGA and branding Bangladesh, she said the Prime Minister would present the country to the international community as a democratic, confident, responsible and promising nation.

The 81st session of the UN General Assembly will also hold special importance for Bangladesh, as Foreign Minister Dr Khalilur Rahman is set to preside over the General Assembly.

Shama said the government is focusing on economic diplomacy, foreign investment, renewable energy, export diversification and stronger engagement with non-resident Bangladeshis.

She said Bangladesh would promote its investment opportunities, tourism, cultural heritage, creative industries and exportable products, including jute and jute-based products, on the global stage.

The state minister also highlighted the Rohingya crisis, saying Bangladesh would seek stronger international support for a safe and sustainable solution.

She called on Bangladeshis living abroad to help promote a positive image of the country and attract greater investment, trade and international cooperation.
