The Election Commission (EC) has imposed a ban on outsiders entering electoral areas to ensure a free, neutral and peaceful 13th National Parliament election and referendum scheduled for February 12.

Under the decision, only voters of the concerned constituency, local residents, election officials and individuals authorised by the EC will be allowed to stay in the area.

The restriction will remain in force from 7:30am on February 10 to 4:30pm on February 13, according to a notification issued on Sunday.

The order was signed by Md Shahidul Islam, Senior Assistant Secretary of the EC Secretariat.

The EC said the move aims to prevent undue influence and maintain a calm voting environment before, during and after polling.

The notification also instructed the relevant authorities to take necessary steps to enforce the decision.

All metropolitan police commissioners, deputy commissioners and superintendents of police have been directed to implement the ban strictly.
