Disaster Management and Relief Minister Asadul Habib Dulu said the government is moving forward with plans to introduce the ‘Family Card’ scheme ahead of the holy Eid-ul-Fitr as part of its 180-day priority action plan.

He made the remarks while exchanging greetings with local residents this afternoon at Lalmonirhat Sadar.

The minister said the government remains committed to implementing its election manifesto, noting that a 180-day “special package” has been adopted. He added that four cabinet meetings have already reviewed the progress of the plan.

“We want to introduce the ‘Family Card’ before Eid on a priority basis. The process of identifying the genuine ultra-poor is underway, and eligible families will be included in phases,” Dulu said.

He said the programme will initially be launched as a pilot project in eight upazilas.

Highlighting other initiatives, Dulu said the government has taken steps to dredge canals and protect the environment during the dry season. The move aims to improve inland waterways and strengthen irrigation systems.

According to the minister, the process of identifying canals is currently underway. He said the Ministry of Water Resources, the Local Government Engineering Department (LGED), and the disaster management and relief ministry will work jointly to implement the project.

Dulu also said measures have been taken to keep prices stable, maintain law and order, ensure uninterrupted electricity supply during iftar and sehri, and facilitate smooth travel for people heading home for Eid.
