Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs Minister Md Asaduzzaman today urged judges to deliver justice responsibly by choosing the right path while giving verdicts.
“You, who are serving as judges should always try to make the right decisions. On behalf of the government, we are saying — ensure justice, and we are beside you,” he said.
The minister made the remarks while addressing the opening ceremony of the 20th Orientation Course for Additional District and Sessions Judges as the chief guest at the Judicial Administration Training Institute complex in the capital this morning.
He said the government wants to strengthen public confidence in the judiciary.
“The people have given us the mandate… You will always find the government beside you for the sake of establishing justice in society,” he added.
Referring to the Prime Minister’s vision, the minister said the government believes that responsibility and correct decision-making are more important than popularity.
He quoted the Prime Minister as saying that workplaces should focus on responsibility and making the right decisions rather than seeking popularity. “Therefore, in every situation, we must always choose the right path,” he said.
Md Asaduzzaman also said he is not worried about how long he remains in office and that he is always aware of his limitations.
“I have never stepped back, nor will I ever step back, from the place of making the right decisions in the responsibility entrusted to me,” he added.
The law minister further said corruption in any form would not be tolerated and urged judges to stay alert against it.
“If we fail to do so, then the struggle to move this institution forward and the long-standing efforts we all made together to create a field of justice for the people of Bangladesh will not be achieved. The rule of law and human rights will also fail,” he said.
He added that the next generation should not have to bear the burden of present failures.
The programme was chaired by JATI Director General Md Emdadul Haque.
Members of the Law Commission, trainee judges, officials and employees of the Bangladesh Judicial Administration and Training Institute, and media representatives were also present at the event.
