by deskreport

Nearly 4,000 metric tonnes or 4.7 million litres of diesel have arrived at the Parbatipur Receiving Terminal Depot in Dinajpur from India through the India-Bangladesh Friendship Pipeline.

The diesel was delivered as the pipeline’s 72nd consignment. The transfer began at 9am on September 13 and was completed on September 15, said Operation Manager of Dinajpur Parbatipur Rail Depot Md Robiul Alam.

Under a bilateral agreement signed in 2018, Bangladesh and India agreed to import around 2 million tonnes of diesel over 15 years.

Since the pipeline was inaugurated in March 2023, Bangladesh has imported 330,087 tonnes of diesel through the pipeline.

The imported fuel is distributed almost equally among three state-owned companies—Padma Oil, Meghna Petroleum and Jamuna Oil.

The Bangladesh section of the pipeline is 126.57 kilometres long and passes through parts of Panchagarh, Nilphamari and Dinajpur before reaching Parbatipur.
