Dhaka: A 22-member Bangladeshi youth delegation has concluded a 10-day visit to China aimed at strengthening people-to-people relations and expanding Bangladesh-China cooperation through dialogue, knowledge exchange and institutional engagement.

The visit, held from June 21 to 30 under the “Bangladesh Youth Leaders Delegation to Visit China 2026” programme, was organized at the invitation of the Shanghai Institutes for International Studies (SIIS).

The delegation comprised academics, researchers, journalists, law enforcement officials and university students who engaged with Chinese policymakers, scholars, industry leaders and government institutions during the visit.

The delegation was led by Aga Mostafizur Rahman Chowdhury, Lecturer at the Department of Chinese Language and Culture, Institute of Modern Languages, University of Dhaka.

Other participants included senior police officials, researchers from the Centre for Policy Dialogue (CPD) and the Bangladesh Institute of International and Strategic Studies (BIISS), university teachers, journalists from leading Bangladeshi media outlets, mental health professionals and university students.

During the programme, the delegation visited Kunming, Shanghai and Beijing, where members took part in exchanges with government agencies, universities, research institutes and leading Chinese enterprises.

The visit showcased China’s achievements in technological innovation, smart city development, renewable energy, infrastructure, higher education and industrial modernization, while creating opportunities for future collaboration between institutions and young professionals from both countries.

Executive Deputy Director of the Center for China Studies (SIIS-DU), Dr. Li Hongmei, said the initiative was designed to strengthen people-to-people ties, particularly among the youth of Bangladesh and China, while enhancing participants’ understanding of China’s diplomacy, technological progress, social governance, environmental protection and cultural development.

“The most significant outcome of the programme has been the transformation in our delegates’ understanding and perception of China,” she said.

“Through direct interactions, institutional visits and cultural exchanges, participants gained a more comprehensive and nuanced understanding of China’s development achievements and modernization journey,” she added.

Dr. Li noted that participants’ reflections during the closing ceremony demonstrated the lasting impact of the programme, highlighting its success in promoting mutual understanding, friendship and people-to-people connectivity between Bangladesh and China.

She also announced that the Center for China Studies plans to organize the Bangladesh Youth Leaders Delegation to China programme annually to further strengthen bilateral exchanges between the two countries.
