The government has declared general holidays on February 11 and 12 to help voters travel easily for the 13th national parliamentary election. As these dates come next to the weekly holiday, people will get a four-day break.
Despite the holidays, metro rail services in Dhaka will operate as usual, said Dhaka Mass Transit Company Limited (DMTCL) Managing Director Faruk Ahmed.
Confirming the decision on Thursday (February 5), he said metro trains will run on the normal schedule throughout the holidays. He also said extra trains will be added on election day to handle passenger pressure.
“There will be no inconvenience,” he said.
DMTCL officials said metro services during the holidays will follow the regular working-day timetable. However, for security reasons, metro station gates located very close to polling centres will remain closed. Other station gates will stay open for passengers.
To ensure smooth operations during the election period, all leave for DMTCL staff and related personnel has been cancelled, officials added.
