Dhaka: The government has brought forward the joining date for 14,384 candidates selected for the post of assistant teacher in government primary schools following protests by the successful applicants.
According to an office order issued by the Ministry of Primary and Mass Education, the selected candidates will join their respective district primary education offices on October 1.
The order said appointment letters will be issued in due course. After joining, the newly recruited teachers will receive their postings and subsequently undergo training.
Earlier, the ministry had announced that the teachers would join on October 29 before receiving training.
Following the announcement, the recommended candidates launched a continuous sit-in programme in front of the National Museum at Shahbagh from 11:00am on Sunday, demanding that the joining date be brought forward.
The protesters also demanded that an office order be issued by Saturday night, warning that they would continue their demonstrations if their demands were not met.
Later, the ministry issued a revised office order advancing the joining date to October 1.
The recruitment process began with an MCQ examination held simultaneously in 61 districts on January 9, excluding the three hill districts.
A total of 69,265 candidates qualified for the viva voce examination, and the final results were published on February 8.
In all, 14,384 candidates were selected for appointment, with the results announced on a district-wise basis.
