The government has taken a policy decision to establish Cumilla Water Supply and Sewerage Authority to ensure modern sustainable and efficient water management services for residents of Cumilla city.
The decision was made at an inter-ministerial meeting held at the conference room of the Local Government Division at the Secretariat.
Local Government Rural Development and Cooperatives Minister Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir chaired the meeting.
The meeting highlighted the growing need for safe drinking water a modern sewerage system and long-term urban management in Cumilla due to rapid urbanisation and population growth.
Addressing the meeting the minister described the establishment of Cumilla WASA as a timely initiative aimed at creating an effective and modern water management system for city residents.
He directed the relevant ministries departments and agencies to work in close coordination and speed up the necessary procedures for establishing the authority.
The minister also stressed the importance of planned and sustainable measures to ensure uninterrupted safe water supply and improved civic services for urban residents.
Monirul Haque Chowdhury Local Government Division Secretary Md Shahidul Hasan Yusuf Molla Tipu and senior officials from different ministries and departments attended the meeting.
