Jatiya Sangsad Speaker Hafiz Uddin Ahmad Bir Bikram said Begum Khaleda Zia worked with utmost dedication to strengthen democracy in the country.
He said her commitment to establishing people’s rights and democratic values remains a unique example of successful political leadership.
The Speaker made the remarks as the chief guest at the cover-unveiling ceremony of a calendar titled “DeshNetri,” published by ‘Chobir Golpo’ in memory of the former Prime Minister. The programme was held at the LD Hall of the Jatiya Sangsad Bhaban.
Describing Begum Khaleda Zia as his political inspiration, the Speaker said she played an important role in the development of political leadership in Bangladesh.
He also said the emotions and tears of millions of people after her passing reflected her popularity and connection with the people.
Jatiya Sangsad Chief Whip Nurul Islam said Begum Zia introduced the caretaker government system to give democracy a permanent and institutional foundation in the country.
The programme was chaired by Atiqur Rahman Ruman, Additional Press Secretary to the Prime Minister and Advisory Editor of ‘Chobir Golpo’.
Advocate Shamsur Rahman Shimul Biswas MP, Special Assistant to the former Prime Minister and Habibur Rahman Habib, Adviser to the BNP Chairman, also spoke at the event.
