Nationwide mobile court operations have recovered more than 5.76 lakh litres of illegally stored fuel oil as authorities intensify efforts to stabilise the country’s strained energy supply chain.
According to the Ministry of Power Energy and Mineral Resources, enforcement teams conducted 303 mobile court operations across the country in a single day.
The operations resulted in 63 cases being filed, fines totalling Tk 344,000, and one individual being sentenced to imprisonment. Authorities also seized large quantities of illegally stored fuel, including diesel, petrol, and octane, which had been kept in violation of national fuel distribution regulations.
Officials said the crackdown is part of broader efforts to prevent artificial shortages and market manipulation at a time when the energy sector is facing pressure from supply constraints and rising demand.
Between March 3 and April 21, the government carried out a much larger nationwide enforcement campaign involving 11,197 mobile court operations. During this period, authorities filed 4,053 cases, imposed fines totalling Tk 1.8 crore, and sentenced 54 individuals to imprisonment for violations related to fuel storage and distribution.
The extended operations also led to the recovery of significant volumes of illegally hoarded fuel, including more than 390,000 litres of diesel, along with tens of thousands of litres of petrol, octane, and furnace oil.
Officials said the scale of these seizures highlights ongoing irregularities in the domestic fuel supply chain.
