PM Calls for Unified Training, Certification System for Youth

by deskreport

Prime Minister Tarique Rahman has stressed introducing a unified, internationally recognised training and certification system to increase the acceptance of Bangladeshi youth in national and international job markets.

“If a unified and internationally standard training and certification system is introduced, it will not only enhance the skills of our youth but also increase their acceptance and recognition in the national and international job markets,” he said.

The Prime Minister gave the directives while chairing the third meeting of the Governing Body of the National Skills Development Authority (NSDA) at his office in Tejgaon.

Tarique Rahman said the NSDA is playing an important role in developing skilled human resources based on the demands of national and international job markets.

He said the authority could also help increase demand for Bangladeshi skilled workers in the international labour market.

The Prime Minister said many training programmes are being conducted under different ministries, but a lack of coordination often limits the effectiveness of the programmes and their certificates.

“As a result, our younger generation is not receiving the desired recognition at the national and international levels against these certificates,” he said.

Tarique Rahman directed the NSDA Governing Body to form a small committee to formulate necessary policies and bring training and skills development programmes of different ministries under a coordinated framework.

He also stressed introducing a common syllabus for training and certification programmes.

The meeting discussed the NSDA’s administrative structure, manpower and functions, as well as national skills development policies and strategies.

It also reviewed sector-wise skills demand, short-, medium- and long-term action plans, training quality, certification and mutual recognition of certificates.

Finance Minister Amir Khosru Mahmud Chowdhury, several ministers and state ministers, advisers to the Prime Minister, the NSDA executive chairman, senior government officials and secretaries of different ministries attended the meeting.
