Prime Minister Tarique Rahman has issued a set of directives aimed at strengthening fiscal discipline and accountability in government development projects.

The instructions were highlighted by State Minister for Planning Zonayed Abdur Rahim Saki while speaking to reporters after a meeting of the Executive Committee of the National Economic Council (ECNEC) held at the Cabinet Division, which was chaired by the Prime Minister.

According to the State Minister, all development projects must be thoroughly scrutinized to ensure alignment with the government’s election manifesto and broader development plans focused on improving people’s lives.

He said the Prime Minister emphasized strict management of public funds, directing authorities to maintain a thrifty approach to spending. Every proposed expenditure must be carefully assessed for necessity and eligibility before approval.

The move signals a shift toward tighter oversight of how taxpayer funds are allocated across sectors. The Prime Minister also stressed that the primary objective of development projects should be to enhance the quality of life for the general public.

To support this, an ongoing process of auditing and reviewing projects is being carried out to ensure consistency with national priorities.

Addressing delays in project implementation, the Prime Minister ordered investigations into the causes behind such setbacks. He also provided specific observations on various proposals, emphasizing that development initiatives must be sustainable and environmentally responsible while delivering tangible benefits to citizens.
