Six families, including the family of a martyred Jubo Dal leader and five families whose homes were destroyed in an arson attack, have received keys to newly built houses under an initiative of Prime Minister Tarique Rahman.
The houses were handed over through ‘Amra BNP Paribar’ to the family of Shaheed Md Harunur Rashid, a Feni Jubo Dal leader killed in police firing, and five families from Sonapur village in Chauddagram of Cumilla whose houses were burnt down.
The keys were handed over at separate programmes in Bhorbazar of Farhadnagar union in Feni Sadar and Sonapur village of Batisha union in Chauddagram.
BNP Acting Secretary General and Chief Adviser of ‘Amra BNP Paribar’ Advocate Ruhul Kabir Rizvi handed over the keys on behalf of Prime Minister Tarique Rahman.
In Feni, Rizvi handed over the key of the newly built house to Harunur Rashid’s family and provided financial assistance. He also visited the martyr’s grave.
Harunur Rashid, a Jubo Dal leader, was killed in police firing on December 4, 2013, during a peaceful procession in Feni town in support of a hartal. In 2017, Tarique Rahman also provided financial assistance for the wedding of Harunur Rashid’s elder daughter through ‘Amra BNP Paribar’.
The five families in Sonapur village lost their homes and belongings after their houses were completely burnt down in an arson attack on April 4 following the national election.
The families were left in severe hardship after the incident. After a video showing their situation circulated on social media, the matter came to Tarique Rahman’s attention.
He then directed ‘Amra BNP Paribar’ to support the affected families, following which new houses were constructed for them.
Adviser Engineer Md Ashraf Uddin Bakul MP, Member Secretary Agriculturist Md Moksedul Momin Mithun and other members of ‘Amra BNP Paribar’ attended the programmes.
Local lawmakers, BNP leaders and leaders of its affiliated organisations were also present.
