Teachers’ Rights Key to Improving Education Quality

by deskreport

BNP Standing Committee Member Aman Ullah Aman has said former prime minister Begum Khaleda Zia had always stood by teachers in securing their rights and ensured 100 percent salary and MPO enlistment facilities for them.

“Shaheed President Ziaur Rahman had initiated 50 percent salary benefits for teachers, while Begum Khaleda Zia later raised it to 100 percent,” he said.

He made the remarks at a discussion on improving the quality of education in Dhaka-2 constituency and a reception for meritorious students at Ati Bhowal School and College ground in Keraniganj.

Speaking about education quality and teachers’ responsibilities, Aman urged teachers to teach students with the same care and responsibility they would show toward their own children.

Referring to some undesirable practices in educational institutions, he said some head teachers enrol their own children in other schools and have them sit for examinations there, which can raise questions about confidence in the quality of education at their own institutions.

He urged teachers to remain aware of such issues and work to maintain a healthy educational environment and improve academic standards.

Aman said awards are being given regularly to encourage students who secure first, second and third positions at primary, secondary and college levels.

Barrister Irfan Ibn Aman Omi, Organising Secretary of Dhaka District BNP, and the Upazila Nirbahi Officer attended the programme as special guests.

Local education officials, heads of educational institutions, teachers, students and guardians were also present.
