US Ambassador to Bangladesh Brent T Christensen met Local Government, Rural Development and Cooperatives Minister Dr Abdul Moyeen Khan to discuss ways to strengthen bilateral cooperation in local government and development.
During the meeting, the two sides explored opportunities for cooperation between Bangladesh and the United States, particularly in areas related to sustainable development.
Dr Moyeen Khan expressed Bangladesh’s interest in benefiting from US expertise and technical knowledge in water management, waste management, renewable energy, agriculture and cold storage. He said exchanging experience and implementing joint programmes could make Bangladesh’s development efforts more effective and sustainable.
The minister said the government believes in people’s empowerment and is working to strengthen local government institutions and promote economic prosperity. He also identified urban waste management and environmental protection as important government priorities.
State Minister Mir Shahe Alam said Prime Minister Tarique Rahman is placing particular emphasis on improving waste management and stressed the importance of greater international cooperation in this area.
Both sides expressed optimism that the longstanding Bangladesh-US relationship could create new opportunities for cooperation in local government and development, making bilateral collaboration deeper and more effective.
