Bangladesh High Commission in New Delhi Resumes Tourist Visa Services for Indians

The Bangladesh High Commission in New Delhi has resumed accepting tourist visa applications from Indian citizens, two months after the category was suspended.

A senior visa section official said applications were received again on Saturday, 21 February. The notice announcing the temporary suspension, displayed at the visa counters in the Chanakyapuri Diplomatic Zone since December, was removed earlier that day.

The official clarified that only tourist visas were halted. Other visa categories continued in a limited capacity under certain conditions. Business and work visas were kept outside the restrictions, as visa services operate on a reciprocal basis.

Even during the suspension, the mission issued visas in emergency cases and for special purposes. During Bangladesh’s recent parliamentary election, several Indian journalists were granted visas to cover the polls.

The move comes a day after Aniruddha Das, India’s assistant high commissioner in Sylhet, said steps were being taken to fully restore visa services for Bangladeshis at Indian missions.

Visa and consular operations between the two countries had been largely halted since December amid strained diplomatic relations and rising tensions.
