Local Government, Rural Development and Cooperatives Minister Dr Abdul Moyeen Khan has said the government is keen to take the longstanding friendly relations between Bangladesh and Malaysia to a new height through expanded cooperation and stronger economic ties.
He made the remarks during a meeting with Malaysian High Commissioner to Bangladesh Mohd Shuhada Othman at the Secretariat.
The two sides discussed cooperation in several key areas, including manpower export, renewable energy, infrastructure, education, health and trade. Discussions also focused on regularising undocumented Bangladeshi workers in Malaysia and creating employment opportunities for Bangladeshi engineers.
They explored the possibility of joint hospital construction, expanding higher education opportunities for Bangladeshi students in Malaysia, investment in renewable energy and cooperation in sports goods production.
The meeting also highlighted opportunities for stronger economic cooperation in electric vehicle imports, construction and halal food.
Both sides expressed interest in transforming the longstanding Bangladesh-Malaysia friendship into a more effective and broader economic partnership.
State Minister Mir Shahe Alam, Local Government Division Secretary Md Shahidul Hassan and senior ministry officials were present.
