Indian National Security Adviser (NSA) Ajit Doval met Bangladesh Prime Minister’s Defence Adviser Brig Gen (retd) AKM Shamsul Islam on Wednesday ahead of the 5th Meeting of BIMSTEC National Security Advisers.
The meeting took place in New Delhi before the regional security conference, which India is hosting from Thursday.
The discussions come as senior security officials from BIMSTEC member states gather to exchange views on regional security cooperation and issues of mutual interest.
BIMSTEC—the Bay of Bengal Initiative for Multi-Sectoral Technical and Economic Cooperation—is a regional organization comprising seven countries from South and Southeast Asia: Bangladesh, Bhutan, India, Myanmar, Nepal, Sri Lanka and Thailand.
The BIMSTEC National Security Advisers’ meeting provides a platform for member states to strengthen cooperation on regional security, counterterrorism, transnational crime and other shared security challenges.
