Dhaka: Prime Minister Tarique Rahman formed a high-level committee to review the challenges facing Bangladesh’s textile industry and recommend measures to strengthen the sector’s competitiveness and long-term growth.
The decision was taken following a meeting with leaders of the Bangladesh Textile Mills Association (BTMA) at the Prime Minister’s Office in the Bangladesh Secretariat, Prime Minister’s Deputy Press Secretary Hasan Shiplu said.
During the meeting, BTMA leaders briefed the Prime Minister on the current state of the textile industry, its export potential and the key challenges confronting the sector.
They highlighted the industry’s substantial contribution to the national economy and sought continued government support for its sustainable development, alongside policy measures to enhance Bangladesh’s competitiveness in the global textile market.
Prime Minister Tarique Rahman praised the textile sector’s vital role in the country’s industrialisation, employment generation and export earnings.
He assured BTMA leaders of the government’s full cooperation in addressing the industry’s challenges and supporting its continued expansion.
As part of those efforts, the Prime Minister announced the formation of a high-level committee tasked with reviewing existing problems in the textile sector and recommending practical solutions to promote sustainable growth.
The meeting was attended by BTMA President Showkat Aziz Russell, Vice-President Shamim Islam, former BTMA President A. Matin Chowdhury, former Director Syed Enayet Kabir, Engineer Rajib Haider, Director Chowdhury Mohammad Hanif Soyeb, Badsha Mia, Amanat Shah Group Chairman Helal Mia, Munnu Fabrics Managing Director Samiul Islam, and other industry representatives.
