Prime Minister Tarique Rahman held a breakfast meeting with representatives of international philanthropic and humanitarian organisations at the Bangladesh Permanent Mission to the United Nations in New York.

The meeting was held at 8:30am local time as part of the Prime Minister’s engagements during his visit to attend the 81st session of the United Nations General Assembly.

Representatives of several leading organisations, including the Gates Foundation, Visa Foundation, Rockefeller Foundation, International Rescue Committee and Rotary International, attended the meeting.

The meeting provided an opportunity to discuss Bangladesh’s perspectives on global humanitarian challenges, international cooperation, climate change, sustainable development and economic partnership.

Discussions focused on strengthening international partnerships in Bangladesh’s social and economic development, humanitarian assistance and technology-driven initiatives.

The participants also discussed expanding global philanthropic and humanitarian cooperation and developing effective partnerships to support developing countries.

The Prime Minister is scheduled to attend a high-level side event on the Rohingya crisis at the UN Headquarters later.

The event, titled “The Rohingya Crisis: A Renewed Call for a Durable Solution from Protracted Displacement, with Justice and Accountability,” will focus on finding a sustainable solution to the crisis, ensuring justice and accountability, and securing international support for the safe and sustainable repatriation of displaced Rohingyas to Myanmar.

Tarique Rahman is also scheduled to attend a high-level meeting on “Climate Action and the Just Transition”.

He will deliver Bangladesh’s statement at the General Debate of the 81st UN General Assembly on September 24, marking his maiden address to the United Nations as Prime Minister.

Humanitarian crises, climate change, sustainable development, international cooperation and the Rohingya crisis are among the key issues receiving attention during his New York visit.
