Iqbal Hassan Mahmood informed Tarique Rahman about the current fuel oil situation in the country during a meeting at the Secretariat.

According to Prime Minister’s Additional Press Secretary Atikur Rahman Ruman, the meeting was held at the Cabinet Division office. Aninda Islam Amit was also present.

Speaking to journalists after the meeting, the minister described the situation as similar to a “wartime condition,” noting that fuel prices have increased globally. He said even the United States has raised fuel prices by $5.

Despite the global trend, Bangladesh has kept domestic fuel prices below import costs since the crisis began. He explained that this step was taken to keep prices at a manageable level for consumers, even though fuel must be purchased using foreign currency.

The minister acknowledged that subsidies are still in place, although he did not provide detailed figures.

He also noted that the ongoing global conflict has had a widespread impact, affecting not only Bangladesh but economies around the world.
