Dhaka: The International Crimes Tribunal-2 (ICT-2) today ordered the authorities to produce Major (Retd) Mozaffar Hossain, an accused in the assassination case of Shaheed President Ziaur Rahman, before the tribunal on July 23.
The order was passed by the ICT-2 bench headed by Justice Nozrul Islam Chowdhury, after allowing a petition filed by Chief Prosecutor Md Aminul Islam.
Explaining the prosecution’s request, Aminul Islam said Lt Gen (Retd) Masud Uddin Chowdhury, who has been arrested in a crimes against humanity case linked to the July Mass Uprising, is also suspected of involvement in various alleged crimes against humanity dating back to the One-Eleven period.
He said investigators believe Major (Retd) Mozaffar Hossain had communications and other connections with Masud Uddin Chowdhury, which require further investigation.
“We sought a production warrant to interrogate him regarding those connections, and the tribunal granted our prayer,” the chief prosecutor told reporters.
Major (Retd) Md Mozaffar Hossain was arrested by the Detective Branch (DB) of the Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) from the capital’s DOHS area on July 15.
He was subsequently handed over to the Military Police at Dhaka Cantonment.
The tribunal’s order will enable investigators to question the retired army officer as part of the ongoing investigation.
