Prime Minister Tarique Rahman has called on the media to play an active role in building a humane state and promoting humanitarian values among people.
He made the call during an exchange of views with executives and heads of news of electronic media outlets at the Public Administration Hall of the Cabinet Division at the Secretariat.
Speaking to reporters after the meeting, Prime Minister’s Press Secretary AAM Saleh Shibly said the premier stressed the importance of giving greater attention to the economy, social issues and humanitarian values rather than focusing solely on politics.
According to Shibly, Tarique Rahman expressed concern over the decline of social sensitivity and responsibility in society.
Referring to incidents where people record videos instead of helping victims, the Prime Minister said many now choose to film events rather than intervene when someone is in danger.
“We need to revive our sense of humanity and social responsibility. Journalists have an important role to play in this regard,” he said.
The Prime Minister also listened to the views and concerns of media representatives and expressed his intention to maintain regular engagement with the media in the future.
Representatives from several television channels, including Bangla Vision, Somoy TV, DBC News, Mohona Television, Ekattor TV, GTV, Desh TV, News24, Channel 24, Jamuna TV, Nagorik TV, RTV and Bangla TV, participated in the discussion.
Information and Broadcasting Minister Zahir Uddin Swapon and Prime Minister’s Press Secretary AAM Saleh Shibly also spoke at the meeting.
State Minister for Information Yaser Khan Chowdhury, Prime Minister’s advisers Zahed Ur Rahman and Mahadi Amin, Additional Press Secretary Atikur Rahman Ruman and Prime Minister’s Speech Writer Mahfuzur Rahman were present.
Following the meeting, the Prime Minister hosted a luncheon for senior media officials.
