Prime Minister Tarique Rahman urged divisional commissioners and deputy commissioners to work fearlessly and impartially for the welfare of the country and its people.
“The greatest asset of the state is the trust of the people. Therefore, you should work fearlessly and impartially for the welfare of the country and the people,” he said.
The Prime Minister made the remarks while addressing the annual conference of the Bangladesh Administrative Service Association (BASA) at the Bangladesh-China Friendship Conference Centre in Dhaka.
He stressed that transparency and accountability in administration are essential for building public trust.
“Administration is not only an instrument for enforcing law, it is also a medium of serving people,” he said, assuring support for legal and humanitarian initiatives taken by divisional commissioners and deputy commissioners.
Tarique Rahman said Bangladesh has huge potential and the country’s young population can become valuable human resources through proper training and skills development.
Addressing field-level officials, the Prime Minister urged them to work with a mindset of helping people and ensuring citizen-friendly public services.
He said ordinary citizens should receive services quickly, respectfully and without harassment at government offices.
The Prime Minister noted that public administration officials play a key role in building trust between the people and the state.
“If a service seeker receives sincere behaviour from officials, public confidence in the government increases,” he said.
He also highlighted the importance of humanity in administration, saying humane behaviour towards elderly and sick people is equally important alongside legal procedures.
The BASA conference marked the conclusion of the four-day Deputy Commissioners’ Conference.
Prime Minister’s spouse Dr Zubaida Rahman, cabinet members, chiefs of the three services, senior officials and family members of association members attended the event.
