Govt approves purchase of two LNG cargoes at Tk 1,850 crore

The government has approved a proposal to purchase two cargoes of liquefied natural gas (LNG) from BP Singapore Pte Ltd at a combined cost of around Tk 1,850.77 crore, including advance income tax, amid efforts to ensure uninterrupted gas supply.

The decision was taken at a meeting of the Cabinet Committee on Government Purchase (CCGP) at the Bangladesh Secretariat, with Finance Minister Amir Khosru Mahmud Chowdhury in the chair.

The Energy and Mineral Resources Division placed the purchase proposal under the international Request for Quotation (RFQ) process in accordance with Rule 105(3)(a) of the Public Procurement Rules (PPR), 2025.

According to the proposal, one LNG cargo scheduled for delivery on August 23-24 will be purchased from BP Singapore at $21.878 per million British thermal units (MMBtu), at a cost of Tk 927,50,60,833.92 including advance income tax.

Another cargo, scheduled for delivery on September 4-5, will be purchased from the same supplier at $21.778 per MMBtu, at a cost of Tk 923,26,66,369.92 including advance income tax.

The combined cost of the two LNG cargoes is around Tk 1,850.77 crore.

The proposal was approved under the applicable provisions of the PPR 2025 as part of the government’s efforts to maintain a stable supply of gas.
