Philippines Ambassador to Bangladesh Nina P. Cainglet has sought Bangladesh’s cooperation in the pharmaceutical sector, highlighting the country’s growing capabilities in medicine production.
She made the request during a courtesy meeting with Health and Family Welfare Minister Sardar Md Sakhawat Husain at the Bangladesh Secretariat.
The ambassador said the Philippines imports around 67 percent of its medicines from Western countries and is interested in exploring cooperation with Bangladesh’s pharmaceutical industry.
She also stressed the need to introduce direct flights between Dhaka and Manila to strengthen trade and people-to-people relations.
The meeting also discussed cooperation under an existing MoU to improve nursing education and develop skills in the sector.
The health minister said the government is working to improve healthcare services and modernize hospitals across the country. He added that steps are being taken to reform the health system and expand quality healthcare services to people at all levels.
