The government expects 10 LNG-laden cargoes to arrive in Bangladesh as part of efforts to ease the ongoing gas crisis, with procurement deals for eight cargoes already finalised.
Petrobangla Director AKM Mizanur Rahman said the tender process for the remaining two cargoes is underway. The shipments include LNG purchased from the spot market as well as supplies under existing long- and short-term agreements.
Bangladesh received six LNG cargoes in August and nine in July. The two FSRUs in Maheshkhali are currently supplying 711 MMcfd of gas to the national grid, while domestic sources are contributing 1,618 MMcfd, bringing total supply to 2,329 MMcfd against an estimated minimum demand of 3,800 MMcfd.
Prime Minister Tarique Rahman’s adviser Ruhul Kabir Rizvi said normal gas and electricity supply is expected to be restored by the first or second week of September, as the government steps up efforts to address the energy crisis.
