President Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir has urged the United States to simplify visa procedures for Bangladeshi tourists and businesspeople to strengthen people-to-people and business ties between the two countries.
He made the request when US Ambassador to Bangladesh Brent T. Christensen paid a courtesy call on him at Bangabhaban.
The President also called for increased US investment and cooperation in Bangladesh’s development, particularly in the energy, information technology, infrastructure, health and high-tech sectors.
Referring to Chevron’s role in Bangladesh’s energy sector, he said greater US investment could further support the country’s development.
The President also sought US support for the safe, dignified and sustainable repatriation of Rohingyas to their homeland.
He said the United States remains an important development partner of Bangladesh and expressed hope for stronger trade and economic relations between the two countries.
The President also said there was scope to make recent bilateral trade agreements more balanced and mutually beneficial, considering the economic interests of both countries.
The US ambassador assured continued cooperation with Bangladesh and expressed Washington’s interest in further strengthening and diversifying bilateral relations.
