Restoring Public Confidence in Police Government’s Priority: PM Tarique Rahman

by deskreport

Prime Minister Tarique Rahman has said restoring public confidence in police and improving law and order are among the government’s top priorities.

In a message marking National Police Week-2026, the prime minister said a professional and responsible police force is essential to protect the country’s stability and maintain public trust. A four-day programme marking the week begins tomorrow.

He said the Police Week is an important occasion for the police force to strengthen its commitment to serving as a reliable institution for the people.

Tarique Rahman said the present government is implementing a broad programme to build a prosperous, self-reliant and justice-based democratic country. However, he noted that achieving this goal would be difficult without ensuring a safe and peaceful public life.

He said the role of police as a law enforcement agency is very important and added that the force has performed professionally and sincerely during every national crisis.

The prime minister said the role of police during the last general election proved that the force can work efficiently when provided with a congenial and supportive environment.

He also said the police force has achieved success internationally through its contribution to UN peacekeeping missions, which has enhanced the dignity of Bangladesh.

Tarique Rahman said a democratic government has been established through a free and fair election after one and a half decades and peace and stability have returned to public life.

He said people now want to see a country free from disappearance, abduction and fear and stressed that police must play the highest role in maintaining such a peaceful society.

The prime minister urged police to play a stronger role in preventing mob violence, teenage gangs and drug-related crimes.

He said maintaining state stability is essential to sustain the country’s democratic progress.

On the occasion of Police Week, the prime minister extended greetings to all former and serving members of the police force and wished success for the programme.
