A Dhaka court is set to hear on September 14 whether to take cognizance of a charge-sheet filed against ousted Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and 32 others in connection with the death of mason Babul Mridha during the July 2024 Mass Uprising.
The charge-sheet was submitted on August 13 by the investigation officer of the case, Jatrabari Police Station Sub-Inspector Mahmudul Hasan Irfan.
Other prominent accused include Obaidul Quader, Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal, Anisul Huq, Hasan Mahmud, Mohammad Ali Arafat, Sheikh Fazle Noor Taposh, Sadik Abdullah, Chowdhury Abdullah Al Mamun and Habibur Rahman.
According to the case documents, Babul Mridha was shot in the back on July 19, 2024, while searching for his son in the Jatrabari area. He was taken to hospital, where he died 52 days later on September 9.
Babul Mridha’s widow, Sima Begum, filed the case on November 19, 2024.
